Health and Safety Engineer

Development of SWP’s (Safe work plan), APP (Accident Prevention plans) and going through engineering drawings which are relevant to current project.  Develop, implement, and coordinate safety programs (LOTO, Hazard Communication, Emergency Response, Fall Protection, Respiratory Protections, etc.) to prevent or correct hazardous environment working conditions.  Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards to develop specific EHS objectives and create action plans to meet those objectives.

 

Identify and monitor potential hazards and mitigation techniques. Summarize findings in reports and make suggestions to improve the company’s environmental and safety policy and procedures. Design programs to prevent sickness or injury to workers and damage to the environment. Issuing confined space entry permits and monitor air quality. Perform other duties as assigned. Utilize familiarity with NYCT maintenance of way (MOW) Rules and Regulations. 60% traveling to Nassau, Suffolk and NYC area locations.

 

Degree and Experience Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering (any field) +5 years as a Health and Safety Engineer or closely related position such as Safety Engineer, Safety Manager, Environmental Health and Safety Engineer or related experience.

  • OR Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (any field) +5 years as a Health and Safety Engineer or closely related position such as Safety Engineer, Safety Manager, Environmental Health and Safety Engineer or related experience

 

Certification Requirement

1) Minimum of FIVE YEARS of NYCT Right of Way(ROW) work experience that includes Flagging/General Work order.

2) Hold a valid and current NYCT Track training card.

3) Successful completion of the 40 hour NYC-Department of building Site Safety Manager Certification.

4) Member of American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP).

5) Current New York State Department of Labor Asbestos Inspector License.
