Safety Engineer / Manager / Supervisor
There are currently opportunities for qualified Safety Engineers, Safety Supervisors and Safety Competent Persons throughout NYC, Long Island and Westchester. We are looking for individuals skilled in conducting and documenting health and safety inspections to verify that all safety rules and regulations are enforced. Full time positions are available but we will also consider part time employees willing to work weekend shifts and night shifts.
As a safety professional, you will be part of a team charged with the management of safety programs on various project sites. The projects will be mainly for public entities such as the MTA, NYCSCA, NYCHA, DASNY, etc.
Responsibilities

Conduct and document health and safety inspections to verify that all safety rules and regulations are enforced by contractor and subcontractors

Management of safety documents including safe work plans, daily reports, etc.

Attend meetings and monitor contractor's upcoming scheduled work activities to verify that SWP’s have been developed and approved for all new activities

Notify the resident engineer of any emergencies or unsafe work practices and, if necessary, make a stop work recommendation

Maintain a daily log of work activities, PPE levels, and findings

Follow up with health and safety deficiencies and close out all findings

Prepare and submit daily, monthly, and any other reports required by agency

Recognize and address unsafe conditions

Conduct accident and incident investigations

Perform Safety Meetings including Safety Orientation
Skills
-
2+ years of relevant experience in construction EHS
-
Prior MTA-NYCT experience and right-of-way experience or NYC DOB experience

OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety and Health training
-
40 Hour Course for Site Safety Managers
-
DOL Asbestos Inspector
-
C-3 Supervision / Competent Person Training (or) C-5 Supervision / Competent Person Refresher

Knowledge of relevant safety requirements including OSHA, NYC DOB, NYC DEP, DOT, local, state and federal regulations

Certification in at least one of the following preferred but not required: CSP, ASP, CHST, CIH

Intermediate computer skills with proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook

Excellent written and oral skills

Strategic thinking and leadership skills

Ability to communicate with employees at all levels Work Environment/Physical Demands: The position requires conducting job site audits that may involve walking over uneven terrain, climbing ladders, and working from heights including scaffolds.
