Forte Construction Celebrates Substantial Completion of MTA Replacement of 12 Escalators Project

Forte Construction is proud to announce the substantial completion of the MTA Replacement of 12 Escalators Project! This achievement marks a major milestone in our ongoing partnership with the MTA to enhance commuter mobility and reliability throughout New York City’s transit system.

The upgraded escalators are located across 5 stations, Bowling Green, Intervale Avenue, High Street, Roosevelt Island, and 53rd Street–Lexington Avenue. Each location presented unique conditions and opportunities, and our team approached every site with precision, collaboration, and a shared commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency. All qualities we pride ourselves on at Forte.

One of the most notable achievements was at Bowling Green Station, where Forte’s team, alongside our subcontractors, placed the new escalators into service 35 days ahead of schedule. This milestone represents our team’s proactive coordination, careful planning, and unwavering dedication to delivering excellence.

At High Street Station, the installation process showcased the team’s technical expertise and coordination. To facilitate delivery of the new escalator equipment and trusses, a platform-level staircase was temporarily removed to create a secure access point. Equipment was transported via work trains to the track level, unloaded at the platform, and then carefully rigged through the mezzanine using a series of chainfalls. Prior to installation, the escalator wellway was redesigned to accommodate longer units and improve maintenance access at both the top and bottom levels. This intricate operation required precise alignment and coordination across all trades.

These station upgrades improve vertical transportation reliability, safety, and capacity, creating a smoother, more dependable experience for thousands of daily commuters.
