Forte and Mid-American Involved in NYC MTA Elevator Replacement
Nov 10, 2025|Daily News - U.S. News

Forte Construction Corp. announced it successfully replaced two elevators at the NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) 14th Street/Eighth Avenue subway station in Chelsea, Manhattan. Forte tells ELEVATOR WORLD it worked with subcontractor Goldman Copeland, which oversaw design work to upgrade elevator infrastructure, resulting in updated equipment rooms and enhanced electrical and mechanical systems, as well as expanding the capacity to monitor the elevators’ performance remotely. Mid-American Elevators manufactured and installed the units. On the northwest corner of 14th Street and 8th Avenue, Forte not only replaced the exterior elevator traveling between the street and mezzanine, but also installed a canopy to meet modern MTA design standards. The company also replaced the elevator bringing customers from the L train platform to the mezzanine with a roped hydraulic elevator, eliminating the need to drill a large hole in the ground. Throughout the process, Forte worked closely with MTA and Urban Art Projects to ensure artist Tom Otterness’ whimsical bronze sculptures, in place since 2001, were protected and preserved.
