Another Elevator Opening As The 37 Elevators Team Closes Out 2025

The opening of Elevator EL223 at 14th Street–8th Avenue marks another achievement for the 37 Elevators Project, delivered by the Forte–Gramercy Joint Venture alongside the MTA, Lead Designer Stantec, and the Naik–STV JV PMC team. Placed into service on December 20, EL223 is the 17th elevator delivered under the project and completes the installation of both elevators at this station, following the successful commissioning of EL222 earlier this year. Located at a station known for its iconic Tom Otterness Life Underground sculptures, EL223 supports improved accessibility while maintaining the station’s existing character.

Serving the A, C, E, and L lines, the new hydraulic elevator strengthens ADA access for riders navigating the station. In addition to the elevator installation, the team completed platform-level regrading and tile replacement, improving the elevator approach and enhancing overall accessibility for customers. These improvements reflect the project’s continued focus on delivering practical, rider-centered upgrades that support safe, independent travel.
