We’re proud to announce that Elevator 143 at 125th Street is officially in service as of July 1, 2025, two months ahead of schedule. This achievement highlights the continued progress of Forte Construction and the MTA Design-Build Services project, which is focused on replacing 19 elevators across Manhattan and Queens.

Elevator 143 is the second of three elevators at this station to be modernized. It follows the successful opening of Elevator 142, with phase three beginning soon, the full transformation of the 125th Street station is well underway.
Each elevator installation presents its own unique opportunities, and this project was a great example of our team’s ability to adapt and innovate. Since we’re not working with new construction, our team had to navigate existing conditions within the original shaft, many of which don’t align with today’s ADA and safety code standards.
Thanks to the close collaboration between our team, our lead designers, Goldman Copeland, and the MTA, we were able to overcome limited clearances, structural constraints and outdated infrastructure to deliver an elevator that’s safer, more accessible, and fully compliant with modern codes. Elevator 143 is the eighth to be completed under contract E34052, and each one brings us closer to a more reliable transit system.
