Exciting progress update at LIRR Babylon station! Forte Construction, Designer AECOM, MTA Construction and Development (MTA C&D) and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), are proud to announce the commissioning of 2 new elevators, A2 and B2.
Elevators A2 and B2 meet ADA standards and are stretcher compliant, ensuring that these elevators will accommodate an ambulance stretcher in the event of a medical emergency. This is just one part in the grand scheme of upgrading passenger safety and accessibility at this station.
The timing of this achievement was crucial. Immediately after the elevators were placed into service, our team advanced into Phase 2 of the project, which includes the reconstruction of the eastern half of the 12-car platforms. During this phase the station will again be reduced to 6 cars from Labor Day to Memorial Day 2026. Meanwhile, our team is also completing the remaining Phase 1 canopy work, construction of the Platform Heating Automated Snow and Ice System as well as electrical service upgrades.
Service at Babylon continues without interruption, and the station will remain fully ADA accessible throughout the project. Our team not only met the requirement to complete the elevators before the Phase 2 platform closure, but delivered them ahead of schedule, ensuring uninterrupted accessibility for riders. While this seems small, keeping to the schedule or finishing ahead of time plays a critical role in keeping Phase 2 reconstruction on track and avoiding the need for additional phases of work.
The success at Babylon is a testament to the seamless coordination between our team, AECOM, MTA C&D and the LIRR. Working together, our team managed multiple disciplines on a tight timeline, ensuring the reopening of the western half of the station without disrupting elevator construction.

Every accomplishment is worth celebrating, but it’s just the beginning at Babylon. With more improvements ahead, we’re excited to keep building a station that better serves every rider. Stay tuned!
