To celebrate National Intern Day this year, Interns from both MTA Construction & Development (C&D) and Forte Construction got together at Church Avenue Station where they got to see just how exciting modernizing our city’s transit system can be.

The interns started their day with a “toolbox talk” from our Safety Directors, emphasizing that safety is not just a topic of conversation or something they learned about in practice. It’s a very real part of daily operations and something that everyone on site takes seriously.
Interns from both organizations had the opportunity to tour the station and see the expansive work underway to modernize and make Church Avenue Station fully accessible. The project includes the installation of brand-new elevators and a brand-new control area. Interns were able to see elevator cab installation, electrical work, interior and exterior finishes, and the framing for new glazing.
They also got to listen to experienced project executives, managers and engineers talk about all the exciting work ahead and how these individuals got to be where they are, which many of the interns found to be inspiring.
It was a valuable experience for the interns to see just how much time and hard work goes into every detail, and to see how collaboration between teams drives impactful improvements to our city transit system.
