EL 144 Brings Full Accessibility to 125th Street Station

We’re excited to celebrate another major accomplishment for our 19 Elevators Project, delivered in collaboration with the MTA and Lead Designer Goldman Copeland, with the official opening of Elevator 144 at the 125th Street Station. This achievement marks the 15th elevator placed into service under the project and represents an important step forward in expanding accessibility across the transit system.

Delivered two months ahead of schedule, EL 144 connects the mezzanine and platform levels and provides accessible service to the A, B, C, and D lines, improving everyday travel for thousands of riders. With the successful commissioning of EL 144, following the placement of Elevators 142 and 143 into service in 2025, this 125th Street Station is now fully accessible. Having all three elevators operational is a meaningful win for the neighborhood and a strong example of how thoughtful planning and coordination can deliver real impact.

The installation and commissioning of EL 144 took place within a busy, space-constrained station while maintaining normal service for passengers. The elevator powered up smoothly and moved through testing on the first pass with only minor adjustments, highlighting the strength of the team’s coordination and execution.

This accomplishment was made possible through close collaboration between Forte Construction, the MTA, and Lead Designer Goldman Copeland. Regular site walks, open communication, and check-ins helped keep progress moving efficiently and ensured alignment throughout the process.
