Work at Kings Highway Station continues to advance as this critical accessibility project reaches an important new phase.
Forte Construction is proud to contribute as a subcontractor to the Package 3 Design-Build Team led by Halmar International, with Dewberry Engineers serving as Lead Designer, in collaboration with the MTA and NYC DOT. Following the successful completion of the project’s major structural scope of work, the team is now focused on system installation and station modernization, bringing the project one step closer to enhancing the daily experience for riders.
With the primary structural elements now complete, work is concentrated on elevator installation, mechanical systems, electrical and communications infrastructure, and architectural finishes that support long-term accessibility improvements.
Following the installation of the three new steel elevator towers in 2025, construction has continued to move forward steadily. Elevator installer OTIS has mobilized and is actively progressing with elevator installation within all three shafts, advancing one of the most visible and impactful components of the work.
Work at the station’s north-end Control Area continues to progress as well, with several key elements already in place. New AFC gates and turnstiles have been installed, and the new agent booth structure is in place, with interior fit-out and communications installations ongoing. This work supports the restoration of public access, which is the next major milestone and is currently projected for March 2026. While work within the elevator shafts and back-of-house rooms will continue beyond this reopening, restoring public access to the north end of the station will support improved accessibility for riders.
The full scope of work at Kings Highway Station includes the full demolition and reconstruction of the N557 Control Area at the north end of the station. Once complete, the new Control Area will be fully ADA accessible and served by three new elevators. The expanded footprint incorporates two new Elevator Machine Rooms (EMRs), an enlarged Communications Room, a reserve Electrical Distribution Room (EDR), a new agent booth, and the latest MTA AFC equipment. Additional elements of Forte’s scope include extensions to the platform canopies, installation of a new dry fire standpipe system, upgrades to mechanical, electrical, and communications systems, and an extension of the existing ADA boarding area. Together, these improvements will modernize the station’s appearance while supporting safer, more efficient operations.
The project is currently tracking approximately three months ahead of schedule, a testament to the coordination, dedication, and teamwork of all teams involved.
