Exciting developments are underway at 34th St. - Penn Station! Our team has entered the second phase of elevator replacements, with installation now in progress for elevator cabs EL 225 and EL 226. Earlier this year, EL 227 and EL 228 were successfully replaced, installed, and placed into service, marking the completion of Phase 1.
As one of the busiest transit hubs in New York City, Penn Station presents a unique work environment. Forte Construction has worked closely with the MTA and DOT to minimize the project’s footprint and reduce impact on riders and visitors. To help keep pedestrian flow uninterrupted, most deliveries and site servicing are completed after hours, while field operations remain active throughout the day.
Our team has also completed the infrastructure required for the new elevators, including the new canopy at EL225. OTIS is now finalizing the installation of their equipment in preparation for testing and commissioning of the two new elevators.
In a high-traffic, tourist-heavy area like Penn Station, our team often goes above and beyond construction duties. It’s not uncommon for visitors to approach our team for assistance or directions. We take pride in being viewed as a reliable, safe and approachable presence for travelers navigating the city’s transit system, a reflection of the professionalism and integrity our team brings not only to the job site, but to every interaction.
Forte Construction is pleased to be a key subcontractor to the Package 3 Design-Build team led by Halmar International and Lead Designer Dewberry Engineers. Working alongside the MTA and DOT, each completed phase brings us closer to a more accessible and connected transit system.
