Phase 2 Complete: Elevator 333 Placed in Service at West 4th Street

Elevator 333 is officially in service at the West 4th Street–Washington Square Station, marking the 13th elevator commissioned under the 19 Elevators Project and the successful completion of Phase 2.

Forte Construction, the MTA, and Lead Designer Goldman Copeland are proud to celebrate another on-schedule milestone as we continue advancing accessibility and modern infrastructure across the system.

This station features three elevators in total. With Elevator 334 completed in Phase 1 and Elevator 333 now placed in service, the final elevator—EL 335—is currently in progress. Together, these upgrades support improved navigation and convenience for riders traveling on the A/C/E and B/D/F/M lines.

Elevator 333 is a full replacement of the existing hydraulic elevator connecting street level to the mezzanine. The installation includes a new glass canopy with integrated LED lighting, offering a brighter, more contemporary presence at street level. Additional improvements included sidewalk restoration around the elevator enclosure, completed in coordination with DOT standards.

The successful completion of Phase 2 is a result of the strong day-to-day collaboration among our team, Goldman Copeland, the MTA, CCM teams, and the PMC and PCEO groups. Coordinated efforts across multiple stations and shifts enabled both Phase 1 and Phase 2 to be delivered on time.

With Phase 3 already underway at the remaining stations, the team remains committed to delivering continued progress throughout the 19 Elevators Project.
