Forte Construction Corp., in joint venture with Gramercy and in collaboration with the design team at Stantec Consulting Services, is proud to announce the successful completion and opening of Elevator 222 at the 14th Street–8th Avenue Station. This marks the fourth elevator opened under MTA Contract E34054, a comprehensive design-build initiative encompassing the replacement of 37 elevators across 17 stations throughout New York City.
The 14th Street–8th Avenue Station posed several engineering and logistical challenges. Notably, our team navigated a complex ventilation issue within the elevator’s machine room. Through coordinated problem-solving and close collaboration with our partners, we implemented a tailored solution that met safety, functionality, and design standards.
A key highlight of this elevator installation is its contribution to ADA compliance at the station. Forte Construction regraded the platform-level entrance to improve accessibility—ensuring a safer, more inclusive transit experience for all users, particularly those with mobility needs.
The opening of Elevator 222 reflects Forte Construction’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the safety, accessibility, and reliability of New York City’s transit infrastructure. Through each phase of this contract, we will continue to deliver innovative solutions that support a more inclusive and commuter-friendly system.
Stay tuned for more updates as we progress through this transformative project!
