Expanding Access at Hollis Station

A new pedestrian tunnel, north-side staircase, and the station's new platform extensions are now open at Hollis Station, introducing some of the project's most significant improvements to date.
Delivered in collaboration with MTA Construction & Development (MTA C&D), the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), and Lead Designer AECOM, the opening introduces key access improvements and the station's new platform extensions as part of the ongoing modernization and accessibility project.
The newly opened pedestrian tunnel is the result of one of the project's most complex construction operations. Installed beneath active railroad tracks during a carefully coordinated weekend outage, the tunnel now provides access to the eastbound platform, while the new north-side staircase serves the westbound platform as reconstruction continues throughout the station. Together with the newly opened platform extensions, these improvements support the station's phased reconstruction and help maintain station operations as work advances on the remaining platform areas.
The phased construction approach allows riders to utilize the new platform extensions while teams reconstruct the pre-existing platform areas. Once complete, the fully reconstructed platforms will accommodate longer trains, increase capacity, and support the station's broader accessibility improvements.
Work remains ongoing throughout the station, including reconstruction of the remaining platform areas, completion of the South Platform canopy, advancement of electrical and communications infrastructure, and installation of a new elevator that will further improve accessibility for riders.
