On July 26th, we celebrate the 35th anniversary of George H.W. Bush signing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In 1990, he signed this landmark legislation, advancing civil rights for millions of Americans, and ensuring greater access and inclusion in everyday life.
As one of the fastest moving cities in the world, New York City faces a unique responsibility, and opportunity to modernize its infrastructure in a way that leaves a legacy of accessibility for future generations.
Accessibility means more than just elevators and ramps; it includes wider and clearer platforms, improved lighting, braille signage, and other features that make stations safer and easier to navigate for all riders.
At Forte Construction, our team takes pride in being a part of the MTA’s goal of making 95% of city subway stations ADA-accessible by 2055 and has delivered billions of dollars in MTA construction and modernization contracts. Our portfolio features the installation or replacement of more than 150 elevators, both completed and currently under contract.
