Forest Hills LIRR Station is beginning to take on a new look as newly completed platform extensions and the new south-side ramp are now open to riders.
Delivered in collaboration with MTA Construction & Development (MTA C&D), the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), and Lead Designer AECOM, the opening introduces some of the first completed elements of the station's modernization while supporting the next phase of reconstruction throughout the station.
As one of the Long Island Rail Road's most architecturally and historically significant stations, Forest Hills is undergoing significant improvements designed to enhance accessibility, expand platform capacity, and modernize station infrastructure while preserving the station's historic character. The newly opened areas feature new lighting, signage, shelter, guardrails, architectural finishes, and the new south-side ramp, with many elements thoughtfully designed to complement the station's historic appearance.
While riders begin utilizing the new platform extensions, teams continue reconstruction of the original platform areas, alongside ongoing construction of the new Ascan Avenue ramp. Once complete, the fully reconstructed platforms will accommodate longer trains, increase passenger capacity, improve access, and enhance the overall station experience while preserving the historic character that defines Forest Hills Station.
Work remains ongoing throughout the station as additional platform reconstruction, accessibility improvements, and station enhancements continue to move forward.
